If you live in San Bernardino county or Riverside county you can get the permit via the sheriff office. Additionally you will have to pass a series of test such as firearms safety, firearm use, etc.

Usually Handled by the county sheriff but Start with your local PD. If your local PD does not process CCW permits (most dont) then head to the county sheriff office. Fill out an application and pay a fee. Its somthing like $450. The fee covers the cost of a thorough background check and an investigation. Someone will come to your home and interview you, and may also interview your neighbors to make sure you are of sound moral character. You will also have to list several referances For them to call and interview. Then wait. Depending on the county it will be from 6 months to a year, or more to complete the process. On the application you will have to list just cause for your need of a concealed weapon. In orange county you can get lucky with "Self defense" as just cause. But in LA, San Bernardino, and Riverside county you pretty much Have to have been a victim of a crime already and prove why you have a dire need for protection.
