It shouldn't be a problem to request. You can always call the front desk staff, they are very knowledgeable about types of insurance. Since you've been in before they should have your medi-cal on file and be able to cover various costs with you. They may only be able to disclose the basics -- ie - how many cleanings, x-rays, basic services your insurance provides. As for detailed cost for necessary treatments, the staff actually has a member chat with you after your exam about the Dentist's treatment plans for your needs, as well as clear explanations of what things cost. Then you can decide how to approach. Their organized approach to payments and cost are one of the many reasons thay keep me going back.
I don't think it would be a problem to request a different Dentist. Regarding your question about Medi-Cal coverage, you would have to call the office for that information.
