Animal Regulation is expected to enforce fee ordinances created by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors and those of the State of California. Those are called "impound" fees. Haven charges a fee for vaccinations that are given to the dog when it enters the shelter and a $15 per day boarding fee to cover the cost of shelter operations. Haven only gets to keep half of that boarding fee. All other fees collected at Haven are sent to the county and state. Your dog is required by state law to be licensed. In order to get a license, your dog must have a rabies shot. A rabies shot is $18 and a license is about $23 for an unaltered dog. If you had complied with this regulation prior to the dog ending up at the shelter, those fees would not be included in the $150 cost to get the dog back. So for part of that $150 your dog is getting the required rabies vaccination, required dog license, and a full set of canine annual vaccinations that you should have taken care of at 4 months old.
