The castle itself is only open for tours on the weekends. It is a beautiful place.
The Castle admission is a few dollars, but free on federal holidays. There is a free kids park and walkway along the ocean. There is also free parking. Sullivan's is a great cheap place to eat. No indoor seating though. Great place to walk, picnic, take pictures of the family or the ocean. Great for all ages. As long as it doesn't rain, you will have a great time.
