Yes, it is. The beaches are rather small, but they are on Pleasure Bay (known as "The Lagoon" by locals). Very calm and relatively warm.

I'm a single dad of two. 5 and 9 So I freak out when the kids are in the ocean. But the beach was perfect for them . like 6 feet out it was like to their knees. So for the first time I really relaxed and enjoyed the beach.

Castle Island itself is not a good place for swimming, as it has no real beach' like you would envision, but on your WAY to it there ARE BEACHES, and free parking( if you can find it!)
