You won't be able to make it to Journeyman as a door installer. The contract for garage door companies requires only one Journeyman. So time in won't matter. If you truly want to make Journeyman you'll need to take the classes offered by the Union and you need to be willing to move to other employer's to work as a true Carpenter to move forward in the union. Word if advice, get iut of garage door installation as soon as you can. It is a fast pace field that expects you to give alot physically. i.e. injuries. You might not see or feel them due to the fact of constant repetition of the work. Some companies require 2 to 3 times the installations per day as other door companies, this is how they profit. If you become injured your pushed to the side on to workers compensation which can take years to settle a Case. Don't expect the Union to have you back either, they won't. They know the true power lies with the builders and they won't stand up to them. Not for any small work er
