The "Bring a Friend Free" benefits are limited to certain dates and you must check your benefits every month to verify what is available. For example for March of 2018 there an offer for "Bring a Friend Free" for the dates of March 19-23 and another offer for "Bring a Friend for %50 Off" the entire month of March. You can for half price but better check the rules
I too am a gold pass holder. I just checked the app and you can bring a friend for half price through the while month of March 2018. You should consider downloading the app to use both before you go to the park and while you are at the park.
