There are also several First-come-first-served campgrounds close by along the same road. When we drove by a couple weekends ago they were pretty vacant.
Best to reserve a spot. Go first to find a shady spot. You will be surprised on how hot it gets there. Jackson lake is drought strickin and does not look safe to swim in. Lots of trash being left there by the kind of people that go there just for day use. Better in the cooler months. All in all, not a bad camp ground. Nothing to do but relax and walk in the cooler hours. For the summer, bring lots of water and a couple pop ups.
There is 4 (I think) first come first serve spots. The rest you need a reservation. If your trying to get a non reserved spot we usually go on a Thursday just to make sure we get it. Summer weekends are usually full. Your risking not getting a spot if you go on a Friday. But I have never personally tried going on a Friday to those spots.
You can reserve a spot open spots are first come first serve
