Scarlet Badis prefer to eat live food, such as brine shrimp. It is possible for Badis to learn how to accept flake or frozen food if they're taught from a very young age. Unfortunately there aren't enough responsible breeders/distributors that take the time to do this and the majority of captive Badis die from starvation. If you're prepared to feed them live food then I think they would be a great addition to any community tank, they are very attractive fish with an inquisitive personality. If you are planning on feeding flake or frozen food it would be in your best interest and especially theirs to ask the store what the Badis are eating and if they'll feed them so you know for sure.
