There are trails were the water is far better to swim. If your up for a drive I would check out the trails on the kangamangus

There aren't swimming areas. You theoretically could find a way into the water, but there are better places.
There are along one of the paths. Make sure you take the correct one or it il take you AWAY from the water back to parking.
There is a creek & waterfall. You could probably dip into one of the larger pools.
