ticket counter for AA is at terminal 2. they operate some flights from 1. international terminal only for arrivals

Absolutely After landing, you have to walk to the 1st floor and find the right gate for your domedtic flight !!!

American is based in terminal 2. I'd assume that is where you would fly out of.
