Actually I don't know that answer. The Rose Bowl is huge and it can accommodate lot's of fan's. There's plenty of room for vendors. That's a great question. If you're not satisfied with my answer. Give me a few hours and I can ask my husband. He was raised there in Pasadena/Altadena area!!!
The Rose Bowl is older than the Superbowl because college football was once the pinnacle of football in the United States. Professional football was a novelty until after the great depression. The Rose Bowl has hosted college teams since 1902, while the Superbowl has only existed since 1967 as a way to settle a rivalry between two competing football leagues (AFL v. NFL).
College football season ends thanksgiving weekend, pro football ends in January. Thus, giving college football the capability of having bowl games (including the Rose Bowl) over winter break for students.
