As far ask know u just need to bring his dd214 to the hospital and they can help u there. If u go in the entrance where valet parking is at the circle look to your left and u will see a waiting room. That should be the new I.d. card verification section. You may need to know if he had any injuries documented while he was in service.
I would go to the VA website and complete the application. It will probably take abt a month. Then go to the hospital personnel office to get your photo ID. Any questions call any VA hospital. No need for a dd214. They can do by SSN/DOB and branch of service.
Yes the dav can help. You need his DD 214 and any medical records you can get. Especially the military med records.
