And park rules also state that a flashlight is required.
2 - 4 liters of water per person, long & short sleeve synthetic shirts, rain shell, ball cap or sun hat, sun glasses, snacks (a few candy bars, some jerky, trail mix), sunscreen, bug spray, hiking shoes or boots, hiking poles (nice to have)
To do a day hike you will definitely want water, food, and a good first aid kit for sure. If you like pictures a camera is advisable. You should also bring a set of warm clothes as temperatures can vary quite a bit.
My experience climbing it twice was different both days. The first was hot and humid the second was very cold and windy the further up we went. My recommendation would be to bring lots of water and snacks to stay fueld as it is quite demanding and warmer layers incase the weather changes near the summit. Definitely check the ranger station to see what the forecast is near the summit as it can be quite different from the base at times. Pace yourself and soak in the views from the summit. Very breathtaking. Good luck and have a blast.
