The Marion County Animal Control Center is a KILL SHELTER. However the Humane Society of Marion County is a NO KILL SHELTER. Never surrender an animal to the Marion County Animal Control Center because they are extremely cruel and unethical, you should always try the Humane Society first. The HSMC is a No Kill shelter and a Non-Profit organization.
It DOES euthanize- the county animal shelter. I found a very nice stray last year- 2017 and brought it to the shelter because the dog had a chip registered to them. I assumed the people would call them looking for their dog (the owners never filled out any info regarding chip). The shelter informed me that they "would immediately put the dog down- we don't give any animal that comes back a second chance- we have too many animals to spend any more time with them". The staff at the main desk was extremely rude. I have dealt with one of the Animal Control officers due to a loose/aggressive dog bite- very nice and professional. I belive there are only two A C officers in Marion County. Very overworked I am sure.Sad that Marion County is so behind times.
Its a no kill shelter however what they do not tell you is if you've ever brought one there you won't ever be able to adopt from there even if it was a stray that you dropped off. The place has a weird way of doing things and their customer service really sucks but as far as animals go, it is a no-kill shelter
Pretty sure it's a no kill shelter but if your having second thoughts you should make room for the dog instead of sending it to the jailhouse
I know the humane society is a no kill shelter
