You will not get to see everything and will probably want to schedule additional trips to see all there is there. Like one day from 1pm to close to wander and take in the gardens, another day for visual arts, another for architecture exhibits, etc. But anytime is a good time, and if you are bringing youngsters then half a day at a time might be the limits of their patience and attention. Also, navigating the grounds amidst all the others that are there can be quite a tiring experience, though well worth it everytime.
Every time I've visted the Getty I've wished for more time. Especially if it is an afult group going, I love to explore the gardens and see what is inside gettys beautiful halls. I think three hours is the minimum I would spend there but the Getty is exciting and exactly my kind of place. Bring some food have a picnic in one of the outdoor food courts, make a day of it. Just remember it closes at 5
Actually it would depend on how long you view each exhibit. If all you do is glance the you could do it in half a day. However, if you like to read all the info and background , I would recommend a whole day.
You could easily spend more than a full day enjoying the exhibits as well as the beautiful gardens! I was there recently starting at 1 pm and found crowds were not bad and was able to enjoy 2 specific exhibits i wanted to see and had time to enjoy the gardens!
I suggest go earlier if you want to see more of what's to experience. If you enjoy museums, plan 1 full day.

Yes however its best on a weekday. I went on a saturday for my birthday and it was really crowded. Still had a decent visit
Always a good time to visit. As a world class museums there is more than can be seen and asorbed in any single visit. See what interest you initially from the guide online or map but do not fail to scan what else you have available time and energy. Do return as on different days everyone will have different perspectives. A visit in the afternoon is certainly well worth the time.
