That's very sad to hear. I'm sure if you look up to the Burbank animal shelter they would take good care of him till his time came. It's a no-kill shelter. But I would give them a call to make sure.
If you do take your cat to a city or county shelter just remember they are kill facilities. Try contacting Best Friends they are a No Kill shelter and they will try to find a home for your animal suited for their needs. They may have you take it to another shelter but they will try to get it out before it is euthanized.
