Definitely bring something with you to eat. The food on base is marginal at best and pricey to boot.
Had a very bad meal at the Bayview this year from what I understand it is a contractor food compay I thought marine Corp boot camp was tough for me until I had lunch at Bayview the meat in cream sauce over noodles was as tough as leather 60 people in our group celebrating our 50 anniversary graduation from boot camp. If it's been changed your marine will be able to leave base for the day and return the next ed day. Have a great time with your new marine. Sempre Fi.
I recommend eating breakfast at the Bayview in the morning before family day starts and be prepared to snack as family day goes on. Family day is over quickly so bringing snacks is a great idea.
