Javier, when the DMV requests you by mail to pay for the new stiker, there it will specify whether or not you need to do the smog check. So I suggest you wait for the DVM document to arrive.
I have heard that it should be done every 2 years, maybe because of the mail pandemic it has been delayed, so you should do it anyway !!!
