Osteoarthritis, also called Arthrosis, is the same as Degenerative Joint Disease or Degenerative Arthritis, and is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions worldwide. It is an age-related condition which occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down over time due to overuse and injury as well as other factors. The philosophy for manipulations is that joint dysfunction in the spine can produce pain, and mobilizing the spine joints through manipulations (also called adjustments) can decrease that pain. Since osteoarthritis is a joint dysfunction, it generally responds well to mobilization. Manipulation is most often performed by a doctor of chiropractic or osteopathic medicine or a properly trained physical therapist. Spinal Decompression may also be used as therapy.
