My dog is suspected of having an immune deficiency problem. She had a very low WBC and was put on prednisone. She is brachocephalic and has problems breathing. The medication makes it worse. Should I seek a second opinion?

VHS is an excellent hospital. Steroid drugs, such as prednisone, work by lowering the activity of the immune system. The immune system is your body’s defense system. Steroids work by slowing your body’s response to disease or injury. Prednisone can help lower certain immune-related symptoms, including inflammation and swelling.

Hello Rose - If she is having any breathing issues, I would have her evaluated immediately.
