Yes get there early. If it is the weekend there is a good possibility that they will be sold to capacity. And no extra tickets will be available. If it is on a weekday you should have no problem getting a ticket without a reservation.
You could still probably buy your tickets online same day.
Although the website states: "First enter the number of guests in your party. All visitors age 3 and up require a ticket and reservation to enter our Parks." If you did not make reservations, they may still possibly allow you to purchase tickets when you arrive in person, be sure to go early, right when the zoo opens.

I'm not sure what kind of reservations you're trying to make, but you don't need reservations to get into the park.
