I've also camped here multiple times. I completely don't want to tell you ( and the whole world), but I've always been able to find a spot or two if i come on a weekday and arrive before 10:30 am. The walk in spots usually are open. It also helps to sometimes ask people what day they are leaving... It feels semi-rude but often times people are leaving Wednesday or Thursday or cant stand the rain or bugs or heat or what not. I really wish it was still a hidden gem... I've had to go to Hebo or other places myself...
I've thankfully camped there many times, but it became well known once advertised on "Best Kept Camping Secrets" on travel tv shows. Then the Forestry Dept. decided to save money by closing it down after Labor Day weekend, It was an unfortunate decision against retired people who await children back at school and parents back at work in order for a chance to camp at the end of the summer. Love that place but now have no access as a retired senior citizen from PDX.
