Do the baggers get any training? I bought 2 candy canes for my kids stockings and they tossed them loose in a bag with other items including 2 bottles of beer. The candy was of course broken when I found it when I was unbagging.

It's not like you have choice some times. You look up from clerk to find it happening. I've had to ask about my candy and I put in my purse. They don't realize how heavy they can make it either. I'd say little to no training. The Manager will replace the candy but oh what trouble it is to go... on Christmas eve... to the store.

I get the feeling that they and others like them would rather you bag your own groceries and use the self checkout. I think they probably do train new hires to bag groceries, but I don't think it's a priority for some.

I think it's the result is minimum wage, average hiree, and not caring. I've experienced similar so I bag myself.
