I doubt the safety aspect. Very few other bakeries or fresh food sellers are doing that. Transmission of the virus through food is extremely low risk.
At most of their locations it normally is not- however, during the Coronavirus pandemic this is a step the company has taken to make customers more safe.
Everything they sell are wrapped in plastic.
