The volume number of your developer (20 for me) determines how light you will go (your lift), and also how much damage you will do. The higher the number, the lighter and more damaging. how late you want your hair to get depends on a few things. 1. Has your hair been bleached or chemically treated before? 2. How much more damage can your hair handle? 3. What color you plan to dye your hair afterward. 4. How light or dark you want your color to be. you may want to use a different brand and type of bleach powder for your hair type. Like I said before the gals at Sally's are really good about helping you find the right product to get the results you're looking for. I hope this has been helpful information for you to start with. Good luck and you'll have to let us know how it turns out for you! Have a great day! Abby
