If you are trying to unlock a phone that you received from them you must be an active user for 6 months.
Do you mean unlock as in security, or do you mean as in transferring a phone from a contract ( as in Verizon or other ) over to metro ??
I don't think so. I don't have one on mine. I mean if you want security you can put one. I hope that helps
