Hi Douglas, Thank you for that question! It's true that the name Healthy Pets Northwest (HPNW) made a lot of sense-it's a great name! My Alberta location was the second store under the name Healthy Pets Northwest when I opened in 2004. Contractually, I licensed the name from HPNW but didn't own the name nor did I manage social media marketing. Social media became such a big part of marketing and with my second store called The Filling Station Pet Supplies, I learned that I wanted to combine my marketing efforts under one name. Hence the name change. I am forever grateful to Julie Cantonwine for founding HPNW and being my business partner for two years while we got the Alberta location up and running. I love what HPNW is up to, with adding two more stores to neighborhoods that needed a local, natural store (Multnomah Village & Woodstock). Although Julie is no longer involved in HPNW, it's still in her family in wonderful hands with her sister and brother-in-law.
The owner, Laura, owns two Filling Station pet supply stores in Portland, with the original in Tigard. The NE Alberta location was originally opened under the Healthy Pets NW umbrella of stores for some contractual period of time, perhaps for the name recognition.
