Ferry reservations are necessary now even though for decades first come first on until it was filled worked just fine. Now,you HAVE to make a reservation. Each way is $10 which is charged to your card if you don't show up. If you are there on time and have to wait in a long line and your still on time but your 30 minutes until the ferry departs you may still lose your reservation. And get charged. No later than 45 minutes before and last ferry of the night is 9 or 10 pm. When island hopping and using the ferry...no charge. Summer months are tricky. Alot of the people who rent their houses on Orcas will make a bunch of reservations for their guests if needed and 24 hours before if not needed they will cancel without penalty. There are tiers that open up 2 weeks, 2 days....blah blah blah so it's supposed to fair.Always get a reservation for the ferry, shop on Anacortes because stuff on the islands is hella spendy and there are a lot of places that still only take cash.
Get a reservation to be safe
During the summer months reservations are essential if you have a time critical event. Also you must attic at the toll booth one hour before departure or you could lose your reservation.
Yes, you should get a reservation
When i was there i didn't have a reservation but it's better to have one . You can check the schedule on the WA DOT websites
Yes, you need a reservation. There are several ferry times to san juan island's Friday harbor. You can reserve online or over the phone, and you will need to arrive at least an hour before your ferry arrives... and make sure the schedule isn't interrupted by ferry maintenance.
