Kitsap Rescue Mission set to lose permit to operate overnight shelter.
Rene, thank you for asking your question. You've made your inquiry on Google's Locals review site. Kitsap Rescue Mission has been operating their overnight shelter for the past 4 years on a temporary occupancy permit. In September the city of Bremerton decided to not extend the temporary occupancy permit. The Mission lacks the necessary fire sprinkler system necessary for housing people overnight. The good news is, a plan has been worked out with Kitsap Rescue Mission and Salvation Army to use Salvation Armies facilities to house the Missions overnight shelter. All other services that Kitsap Rescue Mission conducts are not affected. Thanks again for your inquiry.
The mission has been unable to raise the necessary funds to repair its roof or install a fire sprinkler system that is necessary to operate as a shelter. The shelter has been relying on temporary permits for operation since 2015. They have had more than enough time to figure out a way to raise funds to repair their building. It's unfortunate especially since winter is well on its way but without the money there's nothing that can be done. The mission does not qualify for federal funds because they are a religious organization.
