As long as he has a bill of sale, stating it is a gift, then no you don't.

To give a car to him? Yes I believe so if it's in your name. Depends on his age too, but you can try sending him w a 'bill of sale, gifting' & the title®. See if that works. I wouldn't want my son to be able to just go in & say, "my mom is giving me this car." if they gave him everything in his name, I'd be out of a car & not very happy. So I believe it's best to go in if you can. My opinion.
