Open Captioning is a text display of all of the words and sounds heard during a production—very similar to closed captioning on your TV. Whether you just miss a single word or you have hearing loss too severe to benefit from the use of assistive listening devices, opencaptioning can keep you from missing out.
An open caption screening means the captions are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Closed caption screenings mean the captions are embedded in the film and our accessibility devices such as the gooseneck or eyeglasses will display the captions when used. With an open caption screening, there is no need for accessibility devices as the captions appear for the whole audience at the bottom of the picture. We host open captioned screenings on Wednesdays, and we give each theatrical film that has the capability (unfortunately many films don't come with captions available) one open caption screening each Wednesday.
