Check with local rescues if they are full they may give one or reduce the adoption fee
Pet smart itself does not give out free dogs. They do have different organizations that will come out and you can adopt a dog, I believe for free, but it's not very often. You'd have to check their website for adoption dates.
The Petsmarts bring in rescues to get them adopted. There is a process and and a adoption fee/donation. Other places are shelters and other rescues. Do your research on types of dogs to know the card and common things associated with the breed (size, health, amount of care such as brushing).
look on Craigslist. there are people moving and giving away nice, housetrained dogs all the time. but remember, dogs aren't FREE! Feeding them the right foods isnt cheap with Vet care. Getting the dog fixed is around $250 and monthly pet meds, flea preventative since we are in FL, heartworm pills, etc. Be sure you are in a position to care for a dog so your daughter doesnt get let down!
