We are planning a week long trip in July 2019. I am honestly worried about us swimming- even at the beach area inside the campground. What about the gators? I am so afraid one might get my kids. Should I be worried or not?

Alligators stay mostly in the creeks and back water areas. They are not conditioned to see humans as a food source here. They avoid people. To the best of my knowledge the only incident occurring at the lake was up in the refuge when a researcher was messing about on a nest site and mom bit his arm. I wouldn't worry about swimming, especially in the designated swim area at Cotton Hill.

I'm not sure about the swimming but you can give the campground a call and they can give you information about swimming.
