The sign for Hollis gardens proper actually says no food or drink but there are plenty of benches and grassy spaces just outside of the garden around the lake
Hollis Gardens is right on Lake Mirror itself. There are lots of park benches around Lake Mirror, but I would say that there isn't really a lot of space within Hollis Gardens itself to picnic. At the top of Lake Mirror there is also a little park area called Alan Kryger Park and there are some tables and benches up there as well with great views of Lake Mirror, so I think a picnic is a great idea. If you don't bring a picnic basket you can get a little bite to eat at a place called the Garden Bistro which is in the Magnolia building right next door to Hollis Gardens. They have great salads and sandwiches there.
