Not really, but it could reach at capacity at any moment, and when it does, they lock the gates...so we pre-order or passes to guarantee or admission....and that's just for the day
If you're wanting just to go for the day you don't need reservation whenever we went the first time we did have reservation that's if you're wanted to stay overnight at a shelter the shelters are $30 a night but if you're wanting a cabin there are 130 a night but with the shelter there is no frigerator or stove but they do have running water outside and they do have barbecue pits outside the shelter it's really nice but if you're wanting just to go for the day to go see the river you don't have to have reservation but the parking is limited there's not a lot of parking so if you're going to go try to go early but the times that we've gone I've gone after 2 pm you can make reservations online but like I said if you don't want to make reservation and you just want to go for the day you don't have to request reservation there was a time that we did go for a couple of hours just to get in the water and go hiking the river is beautiful the water is so clear you can always call them
It's best to lock in a reservation that way you know you can get in if capacity is reached for the park for that day.
