Yes, but not wanting to visit somewhere because of what happened 150 years ago or longer is just silly....and frankly short-sightedness on your part. That would be a kin to me not wanting to visit Australia because once upon a time it was a British colony where Britain sent its prisoners.
Yes, there's no plantation that did not have slaves. History is history good and bad.
I understand why it would be strange. As a black American, I felt the same for a long time but its not a place honoring the history of American slavery. The tour educates on it. That being said, local racists love it. It's fine to feel weird about it but it's a great place to learn about American history.
Yes. It is part of history and erased history is doomed to repeat itself. I took my kids there last year and it was a good learning tool to cultural diversity. I learned a lot during the tour.
Yes. They also have picnics out in the fields where people were ripped apart by dogs but none of that matters because we are not supposed to hold any morality just what is visually stimulating.
I personally had nothing to do with slavery what if you wanna visit at historic place it's very nice
Slaves existed since humanity was put on Earth. It's part of our fallen nature.
Yes they did. And its a nice home. But have to remember that salves are the ones who built the plantation.
You actually honor the memory of the enslaved humans that built and operated this property by taking out a couple of hours of your precious time considering the slaves gave their entire lives! Think about it sir!
Of course there was a huge need for slave labor to build a plantation home & it's outbuildings. Opulence was the key then. Bigger must be better. Initial investment in slave labor meant long term free labor to run a huge multi acre plantation. Are the slave homes still intact? Or been rebuilt to show the other side of this plantation lifestyle? Always keep that in mind when touring or attending a function there.
