Is camping overnight legal? Because there is a guy camping there in his white Ford small SUV. He took his front plates to off while we were there. He yelled at us.

Yes, actually it is. You may park in a Rest Area, in a designated parking spot for 8 hours in a 24 hour period. Completely legal in CA. CalTrans would rather tired drivers pull off and sleep then get into a wreck or end up parking illegally. Unfortunately, you probably ran into an unsavory individual, which can happen, but just because someone is sleeping overnight DOES NOT make them ‘druggies’ or ‘transients’

No, it is not. I am sure there is a sign stating this. That rest stop always seems to have druggies and transients sleeping in their cars and doing drugs.

I am here right now I am a truck driver, and see 5 vehicles camping out/ sleeping out of car drinking and just seems odd to me first time I see this in a rest area looks and seems unsafe to get off does seem as S Carter is right.
