Super nice! But be careful, there seems to be random people who live in their cars there. I had one man watch me for like 10 min straight

What a great stop. Good clean restrooms and a great walk through the redwoods. Such a beautiful location for some great misty photos of the redwood groves. Not the tallest trees, but beautiful views and a great stop to run around.

While this reststop is open there is not much parking because it is under construction and they have everything blocked off. The bathrooms are Porta potties right now.

Yes, actually it is. You may park in a Rest Area, in a designated parking spot for 8 hours in a 24 hour period. Completely legal in CA. CalTrans would rather tired drivers pull off and sleep then get into a wreck or end up parking illegally. Unfortunately, you probably ran into an unsavory individual, which can happen, but just because someone is sleeping overnight DOES NOT make them ‘druggies’ or ‘transients’
