You can get cash back at register, but on returns, it goes back on card.... Hope that helps....
All retailers repay on returns with how you bought the item IF you have the receipt. No receipt means it gets tricky. If you buy a shirt on sale with cash, return it without the receipt, the lowest sale price since you bought it is what you'll have returned to you in a gift card form. Save those receipts.
