My aunt has a beautiful cattle ranch. She met a German Shepherd there that she wanted to adopt to work livestock and be a companion to my uncle. They simply would not allow it. They insisted that it must be an indoor pet only. SMH

You know they wouldn't have this instruction with a normal dog, this dog must have some kind of special need. They'll know their dogs far better than visitors, and want them to have a good home. You could have asked them what the dog needed instead of writing here.

I have a German Shepherd that is needing a good home with lots of room to run. He is almost 9 years old.

They were worried when I told them I'd be taking my adopted dog on a lot of hikes with me because she had to be an "indoor" dog. Is there really such thing? I say adopt and don't worry about what they say with something like that. It's your aunt's new doggy and it's her ranch, and if the German Shepard turns out to be a great cattle dog then who's to say she can't do that. So don't worry about the tight outdoor indoor rules they give.

German Shepards highly active dogs. It would be incerdibly unhealthy if I kept mine strictly inside. I adopted my shepard here and was never asked this question. Ive heard of agencies concerned about cats being outdoors due to local enviromental balance due to their sometimes exccess hunting but never heard this about dogs.
