I agree with Erin. You don't need to do anything with the shelter, but do notify the microchip company. The shelter staff will be happy to tell you how to notify the microchip company if you have questions. I've found Norman Shelter staff to be very helpful.

You don't need to update it with the shelter but you do need to change it with the microchip company. They should have given you information on how to do that.
