Most every area is in direct sunlight, I suggest proper attire (other than swim wear, like a hat, sensitive sunscreen, etc.). That being said there are smaller pools for family swimming that would be perfect but you could go to your local pool for the same experience. Honestly, you know yourself, your child and the reason you want to go to the park, so you know best but for the amount of money and the age of the child I would say find somewhere else to go swim until you and your child could enjoy the full park experience.

He will love it. Make sure you take him on the old cars ride. We took my 2year old grandson. He is a Young 2year old. Had a blast

Only at the water park you will have the best time.

There are a few rides (like only 3 or 4) you can ride on with him but there are the water park areas that would be fun. At least they were for my son when he was 18 months last summer.
