Charleston is a large city. While actual Charleston doesn't have a beach, you can stay at isle of palms, or folly beach, or any number of places that are within a 45 min drive of the City. Charleston has a lot of history, lot of places to visit, and some good shopping.

I think it's a nice place to visit, however if youre wanting to be close to the beach with that kinda vibe try Myrtle Beach. But in Charleston lots of historic places to visit, lots of stores and restaraunts. The hotels have that Charleston feel down town. Isle of palms isnt too far away where there is a beach... So depending on your idea of fun that may be a great idea. You should also look up Myrtle Beach to figure out which would make it a great girls trip.
No beach, but Folly Beach and Isle of Palms are close by. Within walking distance of the park are lots of awesome shopping spots and abundant night life and fine dining.
