We went yesterday. The river is very low. We walked and pulled the kayaks as much as we paddled. This time of year I would not recommend kayaking that stretch of the river. We put in at the dam.

You can, but currently the water level is too low for much of the river. If you do choose to go, be prepared to walk. It is beautiful to see through there. We were able to walk across and up/down the river with a 5 yr old. That area is not even knee high.
The water was not much higher than my ankle and the river bed is rock. So it's probably not the best place to kayak. Might want to try another area up or down the river.
