I was a manager at a Cracker Barrel in Texas. I just wanted to add to Mr. Hamilton and say, that majority of the food is made in the morning and they make enough to last through lunch. If you come in between 3 and 4 you are getting food that has just been "stewing" most of the day. Whenever you go to eat try to get their as early as possible. At 4:00 all undused from day is thrown out and new is made. For the freshest food 5:00pm is you best bet. Also just call up their and tell the manager your experience was not good. He will take your name and issue you a couple of free dinners as well as a dessert. At least that is what was done at the location I worked at.
They should have given you a discount. I went to cracker barrel recently and was not impressed. The food was bland and I could tell most of it was out of a bag or a can. Not home style cooking by any stretch. You should call back and speak to the manager, let them know about your experience and they should do something for you.
