We were just there this weekend..only part of the beach is open after dark..it is posted by sign that the protected area to the east of the light house is Closed after dark..and you can be fined for rock hunting after dark..

Yes. If you enter from the boardwalk where the museum and light house is, rock hounding and yooperlite hunting is fair game, TO THE LEFT! The right is protected land by state fisheries and wildlife. If you yooperlite hunt that area, you can be fined up to a $1,000.00 we found this out the hard way a couple weeks ago. Ugh.

I believe the light house is closed, but we also went down on the beach after dark. I don't remember any signs say the beach was closed.
