Are you allowed to camp outside the campsites. Ie make your own campsite in the woods. I dont like camping close to others

This is not an option at the State Parks. However, such styles of camping is possible in a National Forest.

I'm pretty sure that you have to camp in a designated camp site only. During the week they may not be very crowded.
