Depends on the dog, puppies are about $150 if I remember right, adult dogs are a bit less, and older pups are often reduced. That being said, you should consider vet fees, food, medication, unexpected costs associated with caring for an animal and only adopt when you can afford to fully and properly care for it.
They do have "pay what you can " events. I would bookmark the site and check regularly. I got Debo, my current dog during this event. He's wonderful, a bit of a cover hog, lol, but wonderful.

I think if you're over 63 or 64 you get a reduced weight and I've always only adopted dogs that were two three years old
