I actually think the meat department is their biggest weakness, as it's only okay.
As stated previously, the meat dept is their weakest. I’d like them to bring it on par with the rest of this amazing place. The brats are good...the end. I find their chicken and beef to lack freshness. If we buy it there, we must cook it ASAP. Too often, it’s just not that appealing. The guys are nice, but I think they need stronger prep methods and standards.
Jessica is right. The meat department is pretty good, until you compare it to the rest of the store. They have gone to an extreme on many other things and the meat department has been left behind. There has been some talk in the company about making it what it should be but who knows when or if that will happen. Their brats are made in house and delicious, this is also the only place I buy burger. I almost never get pieces of bone or anything unpleasant. Unlike Walmart where you get that in every bite. The guys here are friendly and willing to custom cut things to order when possible. There is no seafood in the meat department. In the coolers along the beer you will find some along with in freezers by the cheese. Hopefully if they do remodel fresh seafood similar to what meijer offers comes with it.
I love the meat department. They may not have every specific cut you could want but you can’t beat the prices.
I recently discovered Horrocks and was amazed at the store! Super disappointed in the meat department though. No fresh Seafood!! Again, the rest of the place is awesome, however... dont come here looking for a big selection of fresh cut stuff like a true meat counter would have.
I would not buy meat of any kind there. It is low grade. I compare it to Walmart and never would I buy meat there. I like Monticellos meat. Pricey though. I get my meat at Meijer at the counter. It is USDA Black angus. Better than choice.
I called their meat to get custom ground beef. Excellent Service. The butcher (my apology I remembered the name when I left) did an awesome job and ground 5 times for me. When I mentioned another type of meat could be used they walked me over to where that was an explained what they could do. My recipe can out prefect. THANK YOU.
HORROCKS has upgraded thier meat dept. In the last few weeks. They keep getting better. If you have been to Seattle's Pikes Market or Detroits eastern market, Horrocks is far better in many different ways every day.

The meat department is excellent and the sales staff is very friendly and helpful. A very unique feature is that they carry a nice selection of authentic German sausage brought in from a German manufacturer. The whole store is absolutely wonderful.
